Elon Musk expects that the 2020 Model Y will be the safest mid-size SUV in the world.
Does Tesla Model Y SUV 2020 Worth it?
Compared to its rivals (BMW X3M, Audi E-Tron, and 2019 Porsche Macan S), Tesla Model Y 2020 is the best mid-size SUV even than Model 3 and 2020 Model X in acceleration, features, storage, practicality, and comfort. maybe the exterior design is ugly and the interior is very simple but the Model Y defeated its rivals.

If you want more speed (up to 155mph) you can get the Performance upgrade for free! However, it will decrease the range by 35miles (280 miles of range). You will get also:
- 21’’ Überturbine Wheels
- Performance Brakes
- Lowered suspension
- Aluminum alloy pedals

Tesla Model Y SUV Charging:
Charging Time:
The supercharger V2 can charge up to 158 miles in 15 minutes, that’s mean 30min to get the full charge. whereas the supercharger V3 will charge your Model Y in 22min, so it depends on the charger power. Keep in mind that it is recommended to charge only to 90% to avoid shortening battery life.
Charging Cost:
The supercharging is paid per kWh or per minute, contrary to 2020 Tesla Model X and Model S that offers Free Unlimited Supercharging. The tables below show the charging time and cost of the Model Y:
Country | Charging Cost / kWh | Charging Cost / Minute |
United State | $0.28 | $0.26 above 60 kW $0.13 at or below 60 kW |
Canada | – | $0.44 above 60 kW $0.22 at or below 60 kW |

Tesla Model Y 2020 Exterior:
The exterior design looks ugly. However, this ugliness is decorated with a wonderful tinted glass roof. It offers extra headroom and a great view of the sky with ultraviolet and infrared protection.
As usual 2020 Tesla Model Y offers 5 colors, the pearl white is the standard one. The Long Range and Performance versions come standard with 19-inch wheels. Whereas, you can get the Performance upgrade for free to get the incredible 21-inch wheels. Furthermore, there are a bunch of cameras outside so the Autopilot feature and sentry mode work perfectly.
The ingress and egress are very easy thanks to the vast doors which are opened and closed automatically. The same thing for the rear trunk door.

Tesla Model Y Towing Capacity:
The great news is that Tesla has added a trailer/tow hitch to the Tesla Model Y SUV 2020 that can tow up to 3500 pounds/1600 Kg. The Towing hitch will cost an extra $1,000 and it’s available in Europe and North America Markets only. This feature will make the Model Y like Model 3 in terms of capacity.
Cargo Space:
The cargo space of Tesla Model Y 2020 SUV is very huge, it offers up to 68 cubic feet. The rear trunk is vast and has two deep storage places underneath. Moreover, it provides more space for long items like skis by folding the second row manually or electronically using a quick-release button in the rear trunk.
Each seat can be folded separately, even the middle one. Furthermore, there is another space in the front trunk for carry-on bags, thanks to the absence of the engine.
There is no cargo cover in this electric car. However, you can’t see what’s inside it thanks to the tinted windows. So, you have good privacy even without having a cover.

Tesla Model Y Interior Review:
2020 Tesla Model Y shared about 75% of its interior design with Model 3. It has a very simple, very basic, and minimalist interior, but it looks fresh and modern. The 15-inch touch screen control anything, even the heated rear seats, and the rear climate control vents, which is annoying because every time the rear passenger wants to control something, he should ask the driver to do it!!
Seats:
The new Tesla SUV 2020 Model Y comes standard with 5 seat configuration. The 7-seater will be available in 2021 but we can’t imagine a comfortable third row even for children because of the sloping roofline that reduces headroom in the rear.
Heat Pump Instead of Electric Resistance:
All seats are heated, the Model Y is the first Tesla car to heat the seats by a heat pump instead of electric resistance. It’s more efficient especially in cold weather but this will decrease range. Tesla put the same Model 3’s seats in the Model Y but raised up a little.
Visibility:
The rear visibility is poor because of the sloping rear roofline that makes the rear window small. Also, the front windshield pillars are a little big, consequently, the turning visibility is not good as well. Contrariwise, side visibility is perfect.
The weird thing is the absence of the head-up display in front of the steering wheel that shows gears level, speed, range level… whereas you can find them in the 15-inch touch screen.

Standard Features:
The gimmicky tech features in Tesla Model Y is the 15-inch screen token from the Model 3, it’s control anything in the cabin. In addition to this, the Model Y offers the following features:
In-Car Entertainment:
- 15 Total Speakers
- 4 USB Connection (3 type C + 1 type A)
- AM/FM Stereo
- 1 Subwoofer
- Internet browser
- Bluetooth
- Wireless charging for 2 Smartphones
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not supported.
Comfort & Convenience:

- 2 Front and 2 Rear Cupholders

Driving and Tech Features:
- Autopilot
- Full Self-Driving Capability
- Sentry mode*
- Dog mode**
- Exterior cameras
*Sentry Mode: you can program your Model Y to activate the sentry mode through the touch screen when it’s locked to detect who comes to break into your car by recording a video that you can watch later and making a warning.
**Dog Mode: you can leave your dog in the car and activate the dog mode. Consequently, the climate control will stay on and keep the interior at reasonable ambient room temperature so your dog won’t potentially die.
Tesla Model Y SUV Safety:
“The Tesla Model Y may be up for a list of top safety scores like the Model 3 based on Sandy Munro’s insights of the crossover’s front impact structure.”
